“So,
who’s going to be there?” I asked as Will drove.
“I’m
not really sure, probably like thirty people or something, I think most people
don’t want to be around the crime scene,” Will replied.
“Cool,”
I nodded looking out the window.
When
we pulled up to the cabin the music was still blaring at top volume. There were
still police cars in the front and reporters.
“Earlier
tonight, the body of Simon Heralds was found by classmate Chloe Gates,” We
heard the reporter say. The Coroners were carrying Simon’s body into the ambulance
we were passing causing me to freeze.
“Come
on Chloe,” Will whispered into my ear putting a hand on my elbow to nudge me.
We made it into the house where we saw about twenty people sitting around or
looking out the window. When the door closed behind us everyone jumped and
looked over at us. “Hey everyone,” Will said quietly.
“Hey
Will,” Some said.
“Hey
Chloe,” others said.
Will
walked past me to the guy who threw the party, Martin. “I’m sorry this happened
Martin,” he said.
“It’s
just kinda creepy, thinking that there was a killer at this party,” Martin
said. “There are drinks and snacks in the kitchen if anyone wants anything.”
“Thanks,”
I nodded walking past the two of them. While I was in the kitchen I heard the
door slam shut and the music was cut.
“I’m
looking for Chloe, Chloe Gates,” a voice said from the front room. I grabbed a
Dr. Pepper, and walked to the doorway. The guy was wearing all black, black
shoes, black jeans, black, shirt, and a black hoodie. From under the hoodie all
you could see were his full lips and small nose. Even though I had never seen
him in such bright light, I knew who he was, and what he wanted.
“Dude,
who are you?” Martin asked.
“I’m
looking for Chloe Gates,” he repeated.
“I
heard you the first time, now who are you?” Martin asked again.
“Come
out Chloe, come out of hiding,” he said in a taunting voice. I let my silky, long,
copper hair fall over my shoulders and a little over my eyes.
“Dude,
you need to get out of here,” Martin said when he started moving forward.
Martin grabbed his arm and He punched him right in the jaw.
“I’m
here,” I said, my voice strong and clear. He looked up and smiled at me with his
pearly whites. I walked over to him and helped Martin up. “Get him some ice,” I
said to Will.
“No,
I’m not leaving you alone with this creep,” Will objected.
“I’m
flattered Will, really, but I really don’t need a knight in shining armor,” I
replied.
